HY Metals Showcases Advanced CNC Machining Capabilities Across Three Challenging Projects
Project 1: AL6061 Aluminum Panel with Selective Black Anodizing
This electronic enclosure panel, machined from AA-6061 aluminum, required precision CNC milling of multiple mounting holes and features across a large flat surface. The challenge lay in the post-processing: black anodizing with selective masking to preserve electrical conductivity in specific zones.
Our team applied precision masking before the anodizing process, ensuring that designated contact areas remained bare aluminum for electrical continuity while the rest of the part received a durable, uniform black oxide finish. Every hole position and flatness tolerance was verified using our coordinate measuring equipment, delivering a part ready for immediate assembly.
Project 2: 4140 Steel Gear—Full Machining with Heat Treatment
Gears are traditionally produced by casting or hobbing, but when low volumes or custom geometries make those processes impractical, HY Metals steps in with full CNC machining solutions. This 4140 alloy steel gear presented a significant challenge: machining a high-hardness steel material while maintaining tight tooth profile tolerances and a precise center bore with keyway.
Unlike cast gears, every tooth profile was milled directly from solid 4140 bar stock. After machining, we completed in-house heat treatment to achieve the required surface hardness and core toughness. The result? A fully functional gear matching drawing specifications exactly, without the tooling costs and lead times of traditional gear manufacturing. Our material verification process confirmed 100% 4140 alloy composition before production began.
Project 3: Aerospace Component in AA-7075 Aluminum
Aerospace applications demand the highest standards of both material integrity and machining precision. This small structural bracket, machined from AA-7075 aerospace-grade aluminum, is representative of our ongoing work in the aviation sector.
7075 aluminum offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio but can be challenging to machine due to its work-hardening characteristics. Our experienced machinists optimized tool paths and cutting parameters to deliver clean, burr-free surfaces and tight dimensional tolerances. Every batch undergoes material verification via XRF spectrometry to confirm aerospace-grade alloy composition—critical for flight-critical applications.
Comprehensive CNC Machining Solutions
These three projects illustrate the breadth of HY Metals’ custom CNC parts capabilities. We work with an extensive range of materials beyond aluminum and steel—including zinc alloys, copper alloys, and engineering plastics like PEEK, PPSU, PC, and POM. Whether you need a single CNC prototype or high-volume production runs, our four CNC shops have the capacity and flexibility to scale.
