The Project: AL5052 Powder-Coated Electrical Enclosure

The critical challenge? Selective masking.

The customer required that all internal surfaces remain bare aluminum—no powder coating—while every threaded hole and tapped feature had to be completely protected from coating buildup. This ensures proper electrical conductivity inside the chassis and guarantees clean, full-thread engagement for all fasteners during assembly.

Mastering the Masking Process

Achieving clean, consistent masking across dozens of threaded holes and the entire interior surface is no simple task. Our production team applied high-temperature masking plugs and caps to every threaded feature, and carefully masked all internal surfaces before the powder coating process. The result? Sharp, clean lines between the coated exterior and bare aluminum interior, with zero powder overspray inside and every thread perfectly clean and ready for assembly.

Post-Coating Appearance & Function Inspection

After powder curing, every enclosure receives a thorough appearance inspection. We check coating uniformity, color consistency, edge coverage, and surface smoothness. We also verify that all masked areas remained clean and that no threads were contaminated.
